Bainbridge Island Fire Marshal Luke Carpenter has confirmed that a 60-foot tugboat is sinking in Eagle Harbor and presents a significant pollution threat.
Carpenter said such a boat could potentially have 500 or more gallons of fuel on board. The Bainbridge Fire Department is currently deploying a spill boom to handle the potential fuel leak. There is a visible sheen on the water surrounding the partially submerged vessel.
The old wooden boat is docked at the end of Ward Avenue on the south bank of the Harbor, opposite the downtown Marina. Click here for more photos.
