Bainbridge Island Rowing was invited to the well-attended 27th Annual Windermere Cup Race on Saturday, May 4, at Montlake based on their Brentwood results the previous weekend. The Girls Varsity 8+ team said thank you for the invite by rowing to a first place finish.
Bainbridge beat out second place finisher Brentwood by 9 tenths of a second for the Lyson Cup. The Bainbridge Boys Varsity 8+ team had to settle for a fourth-place finish in their race for the Referee Cup. A mixed-gender team of rowers aged 50 and over took third in their race.
The Seattle Times estimated that as many as 10,000 people attended the event.
Five seniors on the Girls Varsity 8+ team have signed early for rowing with college teams next year: Hanna Christoffersen with Georgetown, Ena Nimb with Northeastern, Maria McNett (the coxswain) with the University of San Diego, and Katrina Kerrigan and Sydney Severson with Southern Methodist University.
