Outdoor outfitter REI (Recreational Equipment, Inc.) announced today that it will open a new store in Silverdale in the fall of 2013.

The 24,500 square-foot store will be located at the intersection of NW Randall Way and Myhre Place NW (see map below). REI Silverdale will offer gear and apparel for camping, climbing, cycling, fitness, hiking, paddling, snow sports, and travel. It will feature a seasonal rental department, as well as a bike shop for assembly and repair services. The store’s community space will host outdoor-related classes, presentations, and events.

REI Retail Director for Washington and Alaska Kevin Golic said, “Our new Silverdale store will be much more convenient for more than 15,000 active REI members who reside along the Kitsap Peninsula. We look forward to providing REI’s quality products, advice, and service to the many that consider the community the gateway to the Olympics.”

The company says it plans to hire approximately 50 new employees for the Silverdale store. Candidates can apply online at approximately three months before the opening. For the last 15 years, REI has been recognized as one of FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for,” ranking higher than ever in 2012 at number eight.

Silverdale will be REI’s ninth Puget Sound location and its 128th branch nationwide.

They are replacing KITSAP SPORTS? lovely, although i support local business, the crew at Kitsap Sports are the worse at customer service and the prices are off the chart.
